Steve Mezak, CEO of Accelerance, notes in his conversation with Lawrence Lerner, President of LLBC, that there have historically been distinct cultural differences between Asian and western countries, particularly in the formal politeness of the Asian nations, which has at times affected the clarity of their communications.

The Internet has brought some change in this area, as it has brought a western influence to China, but as Lerner points out, it remains advantageous when outsourcing to China to establish distinct communications expectations from the outset, particularly in regard to encouraging regular feedback. Americans and other westerners should also utilize written material and the Internet to educate themselves on Asian manners and to facilitate cultural understanding.
